WELCOME!
Salento is a bar and restaurant in East India Docks, Tower Hamlets, specialising in Italian cuisine and good quality wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks. It is open from 7am until late, meaning it is an ideal place to enjoy great food throughout the day- and for very reasonable prices! Have a look at our menu page and you’ll see what we mean!
Salento is more than just a bar and restaurant.
Salento offers a wide variety of sit down meals and also a “stand-up” buffet. It can seat 150 diners comfortably and can accommodate larger crowds when providing food in the buffet format.
Salento is a flexible space and so can be adapted to your needs.
ROBERTO & FABRIZIO PLATI
Roberto and Fabrizio are the sons of Italian immigrants who left Salento in the early 70s. Their father and uncle ran the famous Italian Restaurant in Upper St Martin’s Lane, Vecchia Riccione, which is where the brothers’ passion for catering began.
Salento’s is named as a tribute to their Italian roots. Salento is the southernmost tip of Apulia, the “heel” of Italy. It is also sometimes referred to as Terra d’Otranto, the name of the area when it was part of the Kingdom of Naples. Salento is a peninsula that divides the Adriatic Sea from the Ionian Sea.
Roberto and Fabrizio, delight in welcoming new guests to the restaurant, many of whom soon become regulars, and is dedicated to ensuring you receive a very warm welcome and a first class service. After many years in the catering industry, their enthusiasm for the art of creating great food in a hospitable environment, guarantees that you will have an excellent meal and a wonderful time.
THE STAFF TEAM
The well trained and attentive staff team take their lead from Roberto in ensuring the satisfaction of all customers through providing a friendly and efficient waiting and bar service.
Salento provides a variety of live entertainment, including live music!
Salento is available for hire for those important occasions such as weddings, birthdays or, in fact, just about any important family or social occasion. Those landmarks that should be celebrated in style.
The car park below has space for up to 60 cars so Salento’s is ideal for all social occasions.

Salento is situated about a 3 minutes walk from East India DLR which has lift facilities.
THE LOCATION
Salento is located in a precinct of offices which were built as part of the Docklands renewal from the 1980s onwards. This might sound remote and impersonal but it is, in fact, close to both rail and bus transport and the layout and architecture makes for a rather pleasant oasis of calm, rather on contrast to central London and the average suburban high street.
OUR MISSION
We pride ourselves on the unpretentious, warm and friendly approach to running a restaurant and pouring the best glass of vino in Docklands, summer or winter. We aim to ensure that, whether you are sitting on the outside patio, a chilled wine at your elbow, or indoors, sampling the many tasty dishes on our menu, you will congratulate yourself for finding a place with such good food, wine and service.
We have great faith in the service we provide but we are never complacent, always looking for ways to improve, and very happy to listen to the suggestions of our guests. However good things are, there is always scope for making them even better.
From live music and live sports to table quizzes, and all sorts of fun events, there is always a buzz about the place and regular customers always go home satisfied and happy. Whether you are just popping in for a glass of vino, or you are hiring out the venue, a professional and high quality service is always provided, and at an affordable price.

No through-traffic makes the area almost pedestrianised, the designed waterways make for an unusual centre-pieces for the quiet streets and the whiole area is patrolled day and night by a very pleasant team of security guards who ensure everyone and their belongings are as safe as one could possible hope! Salento is the only venue for night-life in the area so anyone you do meet is almost certainly going to be a customer or a fellow participant at which ever event you're attending. So the night is yours and theirs with no unwelcome strangers to ruin that social vibe.
